Self Exclusion

Self Exclusion is on the right hand of the cashier window with phone numbers and the ALH David Swartz Gambling Awareness Posters.
I heard one of the staff say with 200 people on the exclusion list , how the hell are we supposed to remember all the faces. Very true.

I just did a self exclusion and feel liberated by it. It was such a positive and empowering experience. This was at a Coles hotel and the lady was very helpful and suggested I use the one form to exclude myself from all Coles venues. Much easier than having to go to each one.
It must be hard to police but I don't really care about that. The fear of humiliation if I went back in and they did recognise me is enough to keep me away.
I think the message needs to get out there that this is a good, positive step to take.

Self Exclusion is "SELF HELP" and unfortunately staff of venues are copping the flack for not recognising someone who has chosen to violate themselves and go into a venue.
It IS a good positive step to take, just don't blame the staff or the venues when people choose to break their own vowes!!!

Totally agree. It is impossible for staff to identify the self-excluded from what may be hundreds of pictures in an album.

What a load of .... the government could easily help those who cannot help themselves by, once they self exclude, put their name on a register and before any person can make a collect of a minimum of $500 must be paid out by cheque, similiar to what NSW does where the amount is $1000.

Have the persons details on a register and although the cheque can be written, if the account was a trust account then the cheque would be stopped if they were on the register and no payment made, in this way those who had chosen to self exclude would then not bother playing because they would know they could not get a high payout, and lets face it, those who self exclude are usually big losers, play high stakes and therefore if they could not win, and be payed, they would not play.

Also make this a Statewide not a localised exclusion and put these names on a database.

Tell me this, I have seen staff refuse a drinker because he has had to much to drink, but I have never seen a staffer exclude a person because they were losing too much money on the pokies, regardless of how upset they might be.

Bit of hipocrasy there isnt there?

What Self Exclusion?
I went and stupidly blew over $200 in two weeks at a small country town at their RSL club, after finally losing $400 in one hit on machines that would not even give so much as a small payout, and naturally being quite annoyed, especially with myself for being so stupid, but also with the venue operaters who have these machines wound up so tight all you can do is lose, I decided enough was enough, I had read about self exclusion on here and decided to do it.
I walked up to the cashiers counter and grumpily stated that I wanted to be banned from the place, I had had enough.
One staff member looked at the other and said with a laugh, "Gee what do we do here"
He then said "I think there is a form somewhere that they sign, do you know where they are?"
They then handed me a Gamblers Help information sheet, that was all.
No self exclusion form to sign, just two people who got back to doing what they wanted to do, yakking with friends.
So I can still go into this venue, still lose my money, and I know I will because I was not given any help, and I would gladly name this venue if it were allowed on here.
You can also go into this venue, not sign in, they will not ask you for a temporary members ticket if you somehow get a payout, and you have to wonder, even if you did get self excluded, with no enforcement available on payouts, what is to stop people going back anyhow?
Im just another mug who is addicted to these things and wont ever change because as shown here, the venues are not interested in getting you stopped, let alone helped.
