In all Fairness to Aces!

Aces was the only venue (and trust me I went to ALL of them between Mornington and Melbourne) that I ever saw adhering to the rules of the Venue Operators' Code of Practice!! The venue was kept in the same state all during opening hours. The venue NEVER closed poker machines in patrons' faces....to create anxiety and to instigate heavy betting! I think that this venue should get preference and recognition for being responsible...if that is possible...for a pokies den of any kind! But at least Aces TRIED! And their policies must have cost them more money to implement...so thumbs up to them!! 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

While this facility does not appear to fully comply with Safeway/Woolworths own standards, it does come close. What is of concern is the fact that this pokies room was allowed to be located both in and near a facility that caters to children. While I did not visit Aces during the evening, I wonder about the visibility of the pokies room from the road given that all the 'walls' are clear glass. Location of a 'family' type restaurant and a function area visiually in the same room as the pokies is a worry too. This kind of enticement would not be allowed in NSW hotels.
Given that the Storm are ultimately controlled by Rupert Murdoch's News Limited and that Aces is the social club for the Storm, I also noted the way in which Aces reported their community benefits statement seemed different. One would think that considering its backer, the Storm would not need to be reliant on pokies revenue.
I am not sure what is meant by closing pokies in patrons' faces. Playing one machine for a longer period of time is statistically irrelevant to the gambler's chances of winning. The fact that you are concerned about closing pokies means that gamblers have not been made sufficiently aware of this. Any suggestions as to how gamblers should be made better aware will be beneficial.
