General Comments

The City of Kingston adopted a Gaming Policy in December 2002 based upon an extensive research and consultation process which is summarised in the report ‘Striking a Balance – The Impact of Gaming in the City of Kingston’. You can download both documents from the City's website here. In March 2006 a Submission to the Legislative Council Select Committee on Gaming Licensing was made by the City. Read it here.

21 June 2008 Inspection Notes:

'Cannot Win' talker signs
Sign for pokie #28 was missing. Where the pokie has a curved top box, the sign was at the uppermost edge of the pokie. Where the top box had straight edges, all signs were placed on the top box but at the very bottom of it. Therefore no signs were placed so as to be visible from the video face.

Visibility of ATM from Gaming Room
Yes. While the ATM machine itself was obscured by a wooden divider and the word, ATM has been painted out, there is a sign on the wall above the ATM showing which cards work. This is visible from the pokie room.

Distance of ATM from nearest pokie
9 paces

# of Posters in Gaming Area
5. The number of required brochures seemed subjectively low.

Visible posting of availability of Self-Exclusion facility

None. 2 copies of the Schwarz poster were observed.

Eating in Gaming Room
No tables. There is an adjacent room with a TV and newspapers. This is divided from the pokie room by a wall with clear glass window panes.

Coffee / Tea service in Gaming Room
No complementary service observed.

Visibility from Bistro Area
No. With door closed there is no visibility to the bistro. This represents best practice.

Clocks in cashier's area but poorly lit.

Posters in Pokies Room
A poster promoting pokies gambling greet gamblers on entry to the room from the car park.
