General Comments

A clock was erected over the bar.
Gaming room can be viewed from the car park through shutters.
The City of Monash adopted a gaming policy in 2001. You can read this document here. On page 7 certain measures are stated "To ensure a safe environment for gaming activities and the provision of meaningful information for gamblers." This includes "Tea and coffee to be provided in an informal area adjacent to the gaming room/s, to encourage patrons to take a break from gaming activities."

'Cannot Win' talker signs
Signs on pokies 4, 5, 11, 23, 29, 38, 46, 47, 49, and 50 were placed to the rear of the pokie. The sign on pokie #7 was on the top box. In all other instances, signs demonstrated best practice placement at video play face.

Visibility of ATM from Gaming Room
Yes. Visible to pokies 22-24.

Distance of ATM from nearest pokie
16 paces (inconsistency noted). No sticker on ATM. Card holder with Gambler's Help cards placed on top.

Visible posting of availability of Self-Exclusion facility
A paper sheet with the VCGR rules had been blue tacked to the wall.

Eating in Gaming Room
A P.A. announcement was made for hot food being available at the bar. "Come down and help yourself" or words to that effect. Watched people with food on serviette and drink gambling at their pokie.

Coffee / Tea service in Gaming Room
Yes. A lady walked around the pokie area, by the pokies themselves offering coffee to gamblers at their pokies.

External Clock on Wall
Yes. Behind cashier.

Posters in Pokie Room. Are there any that promote non-gaming activities in the hotel?
Poster - $42,566 jackpots won in this venue last month. 1 Schwarz poster. 2 x Let's Deal posters plus a board with lights around it. The posters stated that every Thursday @ 8PM "You could win up yo %500. Complimentary Food - Prizes to be given away." There was a Friday Night Fun and Games poster behind the cashier 6:30 to 9:30 PM " Members Jackpot $750. Prize Drawn every half hour. 7 x posters in back lit boxes promoting pokie games.
The venue uses Tabcorp "You Can Feel It" reserved signs that imply that the longer one gambles the closer one might feel to a jackpot.

14 June 2008 Inspection Notes:

'Cannot Win' talker signs
Signs that had been placed to the rear of the pokies as previously noted had now been moved to the front. The sign on pokie #7 remains on the top box.14 pokies had signs where placed intersected with the animated reels on the video face.
