In October 2008, The Logan City Council resolved as follows:
1 That, given the prevalence of problem gambling in Logan, Council does not support any increase in the number of electronic gaming machines in Logan
or an extension to the hours of operation of electronic gaming machine venues in Logan.
2. That the Deputy Chief Executive Officer - Community & Customer Services be requested to provide a report to a future Community, Sport & Customer
Services Committee meeting detailing how Council can best implement the policy as outlined in Clause 1 above, relating to the number of electronic gambling machines. This report is to include details of all policies, local laws, and all other instruments relevant to local government that could be used to strengthen Council's policy as outlined in Clause 1 above relating to the number of electronic gaming machines.

General Comments.
  1. At 6:07 observed child inside the pokie area with an adult. The child talked to a woman who was sitting in front of a pokie. The child then climbed up on a chair in front of a pokie. The adult man and woman then left with the child. I did not observe any staff member come up to these people to remove the child from the pokie room.
  2. Watched adult man come in with young boy, presumably father and son. Father left child unattended and unsupervised in play area playing video games. Father returned to area in bistro where he could look into play area.
  3. Elderly couple came in with two children. Children left in play area. "Grandma" went into pokie area and inserted $10 in pokie #16. "Grandpa" sat at table with no vision of play area where the two children played unsupervised. Grandma lost her $10 and went to another pokie and inserted another $10. Child came back. Grandpa went into pokie room to get Grandma from the pokies.
All of these incidents occurred without any observed intervention from pokie room staff.
