23 March 2008 Inspection Notes:'Cannot Win' talker signsAll signs were placed too high so as not to be visible from video play face. Poor practice. Signs had previously been placed at video face level as remnants of tape were visible on
every pokie. This leads to the conclusion that signs had been correctly placed and then intentionally removed to a less visible space.
Visibility of ATM from Gaming RoomYes. Picture of tavern exterior taken from atop the Commonwealth Bank ATM. This terminal is not close to any other shop in the mall e.g. the movie box office. Conclusion is that it was deliberately placed for its visibility from the gaming room.
Distance of ATM from nearest pokie14 paces from the Westpac ATM outside the tavern.
Visible posting of availability of Self-Exclusion facilityNone

Eating in Gaming RoomNo.
Coffee / Tea service in Gaming RoomNo.
Visibility from Sports Bar AreaYes. Through frosted/clear glass.
Kid's Play AreaThis gaming area is located in a mall and is clearly visible to all passers-by. It is almost directly opposite the box office for the Village cinemas.
General CommentsLicensing is confusing. Posted on entrance is an expired venue operators license for Century City Entertainment P/L. The same company is mentioned in a class 2 license. However, the venue operator's license that is current is in the name of ALH. ALH trading as Century City Walk holds the food license according to another posting. The ALH mission statement is a freestanding talker at the cashiers counter. Notwithstanding, another company lodged the Community Benefits statement.
According to the website trading hours are Sunday to Thursday: 8.00am to 3.00am / Friday and Saturday: 8.00am to 4.00am.
The City of Monash adopted a gaming policy in 2001. You can read this document
here. On page 7 certain measures are stated "To ensure a safe environment for gaming activities and the provision of meaningful information for gamblers." This includes "Tea and coffee to be provided in an informal area adjacent to the gaming room/s, to encourage patrons to take a break from gaming activities." The City of Monash also created
a helpful web page.

Using the Tabaret "You Can Feel It" reserve signs. This could imply that one can feel that a jackpot is coming and therefore one places the reserve sign in the pokie.

CommentsThe clear glass panes in the front window of the pokie area has been glazed over. However, there are clear parts where a passerbys can still see the pokie lights inside. The venue is accessed through a large sliding door. When open the pokies can be seen from the queue area of the Village Roadshow Cinema. The door was open during the whole of the 4 April visit (about 19 minutes).
The lounge area between the pokies and the clear glass window has been removed and pokies are now in this space.
