Playgrounds in View of Pokies..this has to be one of the most disgusting things I have witnessed.
So now, mums and Dads can play the Pokies while the playground looks after their kids. This is just plain madness.

Will the current auction process result in less machines in AFL clubs or their drinking/gambling investment s.
I can see special treatment being afforded the AFL clubs to protect this insidious source of revenue, if they dont get what they want. Then there is the so called community benefit of using pokies tax to pay professional players ... a joke.

I find it very concerning, I now see kids in the pokies. We had dinner at the Highways, (not the best meal) when leaving the club we noticed a kid sitting on a chair in the pokies tapping the keys on the machine. I mean where on earth are the staff to stop this sort of thing.

This area is basically a lower income area, many of the patrons are lower income and quite a few are in the lower intelligence bracket, thats not being disrespectful, its just a fact.
Staff at this venue go out of there way to patronise these types and it is done in a way that encourages more and more to come back. Comments like you have done well and I cant win on this machine, you must have the gift are common, anything to keep people in the venue, and it is hardly an area that can afford losses of 5 million dollars a year on the machines, also St Vinnies and the Salvos are forever trying to feed those encouraged to lose at this venue. They say only 2% of the population are addicted to pokies, based on statistics that is half a million people, and yet they say 'Only' And the governments reap in all the financial rewards yet hypocritically put up ads on the TV and Radio telling people not to lose their money. Like smoking, they really dont ant people to give them up, its all window dressing because of all that money that keeps flowing in.

OK, I have spent some time on this website and checked out all the posts before I got here and carried out some research of my own. First of all Paul, let me point a few things out to you...
Now, I can understand why you are going after Bruce Mathieson and Woolworths and the football clubs, but I think it's a bit unfair to pick on Bryan at the Hampton Park Tavern and Sam from Castello's Berwick Springs Hotel, to name just a couple. First of all with the Machine Talkers, Regulation 17 in the Gambling Regulation Regulations 2005 states "At all times when a gaming machine is available for gaming in an approved venue, the venue operator must ensure that a player information talker is displayed on the gaming machine so that it is clearly visible from the front of the machine". At no point does it mention that the talker HAS to be at eye level. If a talker is on the top box it can still be seen from the front of the machine (VCGR Inspectors have passed this). I know you quoted Mr Luscombe from Woolworths, but he only speaks for ALH venues not the rest of the state! Secondly, in regard to ATMs being visible from the machines, the old voluntary codes of practice did state that the ATMs would not be visible from the machines...However the new Codes of Conduct implemented on the 1st June 2009 DO NOT mention this...Also, the Gambling Regulation Act 2003 DOES NOT stipulate that ATMs have to be out of sight of the machines. So, again, this is not illegal. Thirdly, the Act nor Regulations state that it is illegal to serve customers food or drink at the gaming machines or to eat at the gaming machines. Again, I'm not talking about ALH. And probably my biggest concern is this massive push of yours to get kids out of gaming venues... Surely it is up to the parents to properly educate their children about ALL things in life...If they can't do that, don't blame gaming venues... To be continued...

Activists have called on governments to adopt the $1 maximum button push and maximum $120 per hour loss limit, believed to be a key recommendation of the yet-to-be-released Productivity Commission Inquiry into Gambling.
I want to know what happened to the 5cent and 10 cent coins they used to use.....they have to do something, I suppose a $1, is a start.

Have people noticed how the main bars are closing early at Pubs and the patrons told they can go through to the Pokies, just so they can take more of your money...This stinks of greed to me.

Hey, question? Has there been any reduction in Pokies since Nick Xenophon has come in, or has it not been effective?

Monash University's Dr Charles Livingstone said machines in one of ALH's Braybrook hotels made $200,000 a year on average, but 10-year licences to operate the machines had been bought for just over $84,000.
"They will be paid off in three months," Dr Livingstone said. "These guys are getting licences to print money at a very low price." |

I just love that new Ad on T.V. where you see a woman digging holes all over the park, & people passing looking at her as if she is a ding dong.. I know a lot of bus trips are now warning the passengers when they pull in for launch, if you want to loose some money you know where to go. (the pokies) the driver finished of by saying just don't play those bloody stupid machines. My mum told me that not one person played the pokies, how good is that.
